Sick body

Sick body

A Poem by anne

He says
let me help strip this skin off,
this wallpaper you’re wearing
like a disease.
Let me heal you here
and here
and here.

He keeps calling it disease,
keeps running his fingers
over all the parts
I grew up apologizing for,
the parts my mother
once called
holy.

My heart is a carpet
he has walked over so often
that if I were ever to be cut open,
they would shiver
at the sight of it.

Makes me wonder, and touches a bit deep in the psyche that says 'damn'.

How is it we continue to seek acceptance from the same type of person over and over who will never EVER give it? Do we seek meanness because it's all we ever knew? I don't think people want the tears but ...when it's all they have...?

This is great! I love the more dark and powerful type of poetry.
