Stirring in the Shadows

Stirring in the Shadows

A Poem by Laura
"

Written on an allegory, the light that has returned to the citizens of a town after several days of darkness represents the reunion of two friends that had spoken to one another for months.

"

From the dark
She awakens

Rising out of the thick

Slowly with her candlestick

 As she  floods the street
With light
The children are lifted
From fright

Now smothered
In morning dew
She’s coming back
For you

The piper lays down
His music
With sounds we all will greet
Falling from the notes
That made death sweet

Lift the veil
Of the dawn that waits
The midnight sun
Illuminates

We gather here,
We gather there

Even the soldier
Will bring his share

Hanging his head
Like a shroud of guilt
Among the ruins
The light is built

Beyond the gates
The soul of the past

They reach slowly
For the world unmasked

With a slight of hand
The woman answers
The command

She lifts the gate
That holds their bliss
There’s surely nothing
New to miss
