Black is Back

Black is Back

A Poem by Laura
"

written in May 2004 when I was 16 and published in January 2005 in TeenInk magazine. When depression comes back, it comes back in the form of a serpent that has the ability to feed off your happiness like a parasite.

"

Her bones

Just crack

She's coming back

She is coming back

this black

it has no slack

It climbs up a latter

now mad

she is no hatter

Black is leaving

it is quick

waxing

like a candlestick

Once it had left

grabbed the keys

this was theft

gone for notion

do not stare

potent potion

she is bare

Young serpent

I swear

once you coil

You are now there

Come down

down off that jest

Curl up

into my nest

The comparision you used of depression to a serpent is really good and I can see that the color black is like the darkness that shallows the speaker in.
