A Dividing Border

A Dividing Border

A Poem by Laura
"

When you move away to a different country, you get that feeling of being split and divided between two different countries. Its about the search for a national identity

"

This room isn't yours

This place, these walls to explore

Where did it come from?

Which you knew to ignore

Right past the door which opens your way

Ripped between what's known

and what will be born

This coloured sheet of paper

slips through my fingers

A shiny bill paying for my fill

No more of the ugly green

This design is adorned

with the Queen

It isn't mine

This politician here, wears a different suit

Speaking in words not meant for you

Your founding fathers spin in their grave

Spitting blood on their words that are saved

Create this new one from nothing

Cut it out from bareness

glue it on

A question mark

sits attached to your face

Its yours

This place at the table must be found

Drink some milk from the bag

To find an answer

The soil of your home nation, abandoned

watered down

loved ones sit on the other side

This border is only found within yourself

Act now

Mend the ties that divide

Laying your head under the same blue sky

This is yours

Great use of literary devices. It's well-written with good use of words. I can relate to the speaker due to my own experiences and I know that others who have moved to a different country too would feel the same way when reading this poem. Welcome to Writers' Cafe! :-)
