Still Here

Still Here

A Poem by Yusra Arub

you and i were two hands in a glove,

made to support each other, made to love,

you and i were painted glass,

fragile, beautiful, but could not last.

you and i were lost in the cold,

focused more on each other than on something to hold,

just like that, we were gone, frozen,

our vibrant glass hearts broken.

yes, we are pieces, shattered,

so do the memories even matter?

i promise i didn’t mean for it to end this way,

i promise that i had meant for us to stay.

crumpled, trying to pick up the shards of glass,

once so beautifully put together; it did not last.

i promise i’ll return to you one day,

i promise you that we’re okay.
