After The Fall

It was the night before Christmas

and all through the house

no one was home not even the mouse

But all a sudden appeared the

ghost of times past

come with me I heard her say

let me take you to a fonder day

As my eyes focused

I could see a wedding

it was me on my wedding day

You were so beautiful

a glow coming from your face

ahh then came the children 1,2 and 3

not much time for you and me

As the years went by

the glow slowly faded away

it seemed we argued most everyday

I guess we didn`t have much in common after all

And now it seems it`s time for the fall

the kids are grown and we`ve grown apart

it seems nothing comes from the heart

is it to late for a new start

Or could we find what we lost

and if we did what would it cost

could we ever start again

could we ever be friends

I guess only time will tell

but right now were both living in hell

is it to late for a new start

do we really want to part

can we find what we lost

and if we did what would it cost

And if we cross that bridge of

no return what would it cost

what would we learn...

First, let me say I love it. And then food for thought: I love the ending. And also, when I read the word "BRIDGE" > I thought, that's their bridge, thus cross OUR bridge, once steady and strong...? something, was thinking about the foundation of their bridge - once concreted, cemented, (by the best engineers) no cracks in that foundation, the cables, strong, they would never fall. Suspension Bridges. Maybe that's silly: I love this poem, you are a great writer. I see the song writing in the continueing of what is almost like a chorus. I was in this poem, myself, thinking of my past, and it is so relatable in a throw away world. I love the theme, the start, the change in tone...led me to more emotional sadness and then as I hoped, you gave them a chance to begin anew. I take marriage very seriously; the message is quite beautiful. Thank you so much - Oh and lastly sorry: please don't take offense; I have errors in posted poetry now: (too) late for a new start. i saw a few minutes of it and it had a lot of humor,not really a fan of country music but the theme of it is just life and my poetry is just about life

You classed this as a story, but it is a poem, and a very good one at that. How true, the fast paced life as children grow up, and then suddenly the house is empty, the couple look at each other and wonder who that person across the kitchen table is.

Yes, sadly it is. I have 3 kids, all married, 2 are going through divorces.

we get married way to quick and when the new wears off we wake up or like my poem we stay together for years and we have nothing in common or we fight aging I don`t know I guess if we let god put us together it would work

I think you're wrong, the kids at my childcare center know a lot of the oldies, probably because the music was the best back then, and that's all my own kids listen to most of the time....
