but fate wasn't kind to you and me

and the essence of you will always be on my mind

This one will go to my library...but please look at these lines first..you have beautiful meter and rhythm until you get to this part and it stutters. Although I still like your message, it just needs a wee bit of work on two or three lines:
Forever and always
your love shall be mine
if only (A whisper) in my mind


you have brought me from a boy to a man
and for that I will always be in your debt
and something I will never forget (this line needs something more for flow and imagery--Its a payment owed I will never forget

but fate wasn't kind to you and me
our love could never be (Our love wasn't meant for eternity)
so I will dream of you from time to time
and the essence of you will always be on my mind

These are just some suggestion but the rest looks good. Hope this is helpful
