At Night i Am Free

At Night i Am Free

A Story by wordman
"

a story about a little boy in a wheel chair

"

By day

in a wheel chair

but at night I am free

At night

as I lay sleeping

my soul is free

I can see myself running and playing

I see my self playing ball

as I come up to bat the crowd roars

and I don`t feel the pain anymore

I swing the bat

and I hit the ball

I watch as it clears the fence

the crowd is up on there feet

cheering for me

As I run the bases

they slap my hand

and I feel no pain

But the morning light comes

and I realize it was just a dream

an escape from reality

an adventure for me

You see I am crippled

only at night I can be free...

By day

in a wheel chair

I appreciate your read and don`t feel bad I have shed a few
Wow, I have shed a tear....very emotional and moving...capturing the heart of a crippled boy....very well written....I love how you made the poem more for his dreams where he can be free....gives so many who are in his position hope and comfort knowing that dreams can take you places and you can be whatever you want to be once you close your eyes.....thank you for sharing

You are very welcome and your poetry for me is like music. A melody that lingers in your head.
THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!! My friends bro was in a tricart accident or aka atv... he was going to a farm on a grid to be tutored, came North down road in right side ditch came up to a 4 corner grid & popped up out of ditch when he reached center of 4 corners he was struck.. the wheel was found a half a mile down road... completely rolled all that way. He was tossed into the field. If you can imagine a compass infront of you... he was center facing North NW he flew NE into field & tire was N down the road. He was paralyzed waist down, spent a yr in rehab & lost one leg knee down. I bet my bottom dollar he dreamt this at night... This was in 87 I think age 12 or 13 he was. The girl tht hit him was the tutors daughter..

I hope that most dreams come true..Sara
Beautifully written, Ron. I felt the little boy's joy while he was dreaming and shared his pain at having to awaken to his crippled reality. Great work!
