The Yellow Brick Road

The Yellow Brick Road

A Poem by wordman

Last night in my dreams

I woke up in oz

a strange but beautiful place

like iv`e never seen

As my eyes focused

I could see a yellow brick road

that led to the forest

All the animals was friendly

but strange to me they followed

as I walked on down that yellow brick road

An angel appeared to me

she spoke and said that I was  walking

through the valley of the shadow of death

But fear not, I will be with you

startled by the angel but I

continued on my journey

As I walked deeper into the forest

it got darker and darker but I could see

a bright light at the roads end

And in the midst of that light

was a beautiful meadow and in that

meadow was a magnificent castle

with angels all around

but then a black demon came up

from with in my soul I closed my

eyes hoping it would go away

But I knew it was there to stay

I remembered what the angel had said

so I called out her name

She appeared to me once again

but she smiled and said only you

can make the demon go away

Some how I knew that the demon

stood between me and that beautiful

castle just up ahead

I knew if I fought back

or if I just stood still

that demon could take me at his will

I closed my eyes

I said a meaningful prayer

when my eyes was open

the demon wasn't there

The angel appeared to me once again

she smiled as she said only you

can kill the demon with in...

Oh, belter of an ending! :) Truth dwells here, only we can exorcise the inner demons x

I liked the story you told in this one, Ron. It's true, we are the ones who control our own behavior and if there are temptations or demons in our path, we must fight them. Good write. Lydia

This is beautiful and I love the message conveyed in this Ron. Cleverly penned and a great story to read. That battle within us all between good and evil never lets up. If we let our guard slip for even a little while, those demons can take over.
The tug of the battle is played out clearly and really well in this.
Much enjoyed! Take care.

But it's still coming straight from your heart, Ron. I always loved the story of Oz and your poem is a nice twist on that story. I could just see the lion and the scarecrow following behind you as you walked down that yellow brick road. I've always wanted to walk down it myself but never came across it in my travels. Good job!
