We Don't Choose Who We Love

We Don't Choose Who We Love

A Poem by wordfairy
"

Sometimes it's hard to do what your mind knows is right, when your heart says something else.

"

I can't have your love,

I don't  want your pity-

I have to set myself free.

You know how I feel,

I know you don't care-

I have to take care of me.

These long summer nights

When I'm all alone

And I know that you're not,

I wonder how

My heart still beats,

When my tears flow so hot.

But your happiness

Means much more to me

Than my own ever will.

I know my heart

Will belong to you

Until it's forever still.

this is a wonderful poem. this is so not pathetic at all.

it captures the image of one who has been left by someone they love, but it has strength, for they already know that they have the power to set themselves free.

i think this is a very well written poem, thank you for sharing it!
