Leftovers

Leftovers

A Poem by Joel M Frye
"

Prime rib of Prometheus, anyone?

"
I carry the ghost of "what was"
along with the spectre "to be",
still chained to the rock of "I am";
the birds of time swoop down on me.

So short and sweet, to the point. You would think that the simple rhyme and brevity of the poem would take away from the meaning, but it only adds to the meaning of it. I just get the perfect image of the different stages of time, especially the "still chained to the rock of "I am" and the birds of time is just beautiful. I do like bird references in poetry :) Great job!
