To The First Man I LovedA Poem by Rache DavidI could never unlove you. But the love will never be the same. You will always be my unfinished business.

You taught me how a small thing Could be astounding. How the butterflies fluttered And my heart pitter-pattered Your presence was intoxicating But absence made it disheartening. My life revolved around you Insisted that forever would come true World seemed smaller I held you tighter. Gasping for air You escaped from my lair. As fast as the thunderlight You were out my sight. I couldn’t even say. “Thank you for your brief stay.” Sever the tie I let you fly To the groom I coveted His place was abdicated. My heart won’t go red Even if madness lurks in my head For the purest affection Never transforms to indignation. When dusk is finally over And I am finally sober Even if you walk in my life again I will never turn insane. We move on Yet the love goes on The first will always be you. But the last can never be too. © 2022 Rache DavidAuthor's Note
