I like the contrast between the two images, ideas, concepts; one has a natural beauty, the other is a wannabe. One does not have to prove anything, the other wants to inflate their egos.
Very attractive title. It draws attention, making the reader
think what really is the difference between Daffodils and Narcissus.
Nothing except for the other as a Latin botanical name and the latter
as the common name of the loveliest flower, so why would you title your poem with two words that has the same meaning. Ah, the content says it all.
The use of your extended metaphor here is admirable.
Again, you are successful in leaving your reader something to
ponder. I have to admit over and over, I am a fan.
"Now
dreams leave the snow shrouded memories
and cross to where they may dance and dwell"~ This seems to be an awakening of spring. I love the melancholy tone toward the end of this piece. Such a wonderful write... Beautiful!
This poem is really very ingenious, brilliant. The narrator seems to be waking up like a flower wakes in spring after a deep freeze...and wandering away from a frozen stream that had him captivated to wander the land of dreams for nourishment, I definitely love it. good write WM!
The surrealism you crafted in this writing is best compared to art; made from perfectly shaped words. So melodic and lovely, it was like reading a Thomas Kinkade tribute.
The ending was my favorite:
Unlike Narcissus,
they shall not starve to death
admiring their reflection
on this frozen, lifeless stream
Can a person see his/her reflection on a frozen stream? I ponder this deeply.
