I'll Just Stay In (It's safer)

I'll Just Stay In (It's safer)

A Chapter by Wondering Mind

I’ll close my ear
And shut my eye
What care to have
For those who die?

War is just news
It’s too far away
Why would I bother
Or care anyway?

I’m here at home
“Comfy” and safe
So, no need to think
Of a distant waif

Let the hungry eat
Rodents and weed
It’s not my duty
To care and feed

The world outside
Is a bloody mess
So, I’ll just stay in
It’s safer, I guess

Love this poem. It truly is the way many people think. I don't care where you come from, sometimes being sheltered is a way not to deal with making this world a better place. It takes someone full of life to want to help change it. We can live in boxes forever or step out and experience other peoples pain. How do we grow as a human race if we are not willing to face the trueth about certain realities? Thank you for this poem.

What a sad view isn't it.. our news feeds us flesh..as if its just something to entertain...but its not.. A hard, sad subject of reality you bring to light in writing..and have done it brilliantly..

Good poem! I hate to think of people suffering in the war too! Good point!

i love this piece. the stanzas are short and sweet, but they speak volumes of a very good point.

i especially like the rythym of it, altogether, very well done!

this is so true.
and it perfectly expresses the innocent bystander effect that so many have in regards to the worlds issues these days.
perfect.

speaks a wonderful insight on empathy and what it means to put one's self in anothers shoes.
and causes us to think, how much do we do for those less fortunate, artfully invented in all subtlety.

It is quite heartbreaking to listen to the news these days and see the world in utter chaos and depravity. I hear what you are saying in this eye opening piece. You have a way with saying everything in an opposite way... don't know if that made sense but I think you see what I am getting at. lol. Great write!

I believe that this really illustrates the way people think when they hear about the horrible things going on in the world. They are willing to turn their head and ignore it because it doesn't affect them and 'it's safer inside'. Very nicely done.
