I Promised

I Promised

A Chapter by Wondering Mind

Promises I’ve seen flow abundantly
in prose and much poetic rhyme
of flashy floral fantasies
and “love” till the end of time

But too soon did I discover
how weak these were to the test
so decided with the modest self
not to embroider like the rest

No promise was made of Eden
or wild wanderings where whim wills
no stardust form your favorite star
or aimless walks on faraway hills

Our love was born sure and true
so my promise was as pure as can be
with heart and soul I vowed to you
and humbly I promised you me

You hit this right from the first paragraph and you never looked back. Very nice flow and the read was amazing. I like the simple promise they are easier to keep than the grander ones.

"...humbly I promised you me" ...that is simply beautiful!

One suggestion, change "so my promise was as true as can be " to so my promise was as pure as can be . I love this simple commitment poem.

Nothing better than straight from the heart, my friend
There is something to be said of honesty...I have learned that lesson well :)
Excellent piece

Love with peasant bones. Very nice. Alliteration too. Not enough imagery though.
