To August Heat And Simmer

To August Heat And Simmer

A Poem by Tyler Trelease

I imagine them sleek and skyward
Glass cutting ever-so-sharply into
Clouds, and they, meek, pouring out
Rain onto hot city streets,
Steam rising from black asphalt veins
Criss-crossing like shoots
And ladders in yin-yang grid chaos,
But rising still from
An unhappy canvas of plaid,
Bearded men on pavement
City-street parading,
Leather boot bound for Nowhere,
And others, they, in sundress and shoe
Heeling it to the “Who’s who?”
“When and what?” and “Were you there?”

It's been a while since I've been on here, but your writing is as strong as I remember. Your placement of breaks is stellar.
