Elements

Elements

A Poem by Midnight Wolf

Time, hope, hate and love
The elements of life are these above
Each one works in a special way
Interchanging from day to day
But sometimes they may intertwine
Like a child's drink of water and wine

More often than not, the remain separate
As if barricading themselves
For fear of being met
So many turns these elements take
Within our lives, a sculpture they make
Time and hope, love and hate
From opposite elements
Will storms create

Time: a powerful element indeed
It can take a life
Or grow a seed
Time can tear the close apart
Time can destroy the weak of heart
A lifespan is measured solely by time
Each steppingstone like an unfinished rhyme

Hope: the measure of optimism toward one's fate
But never allowed to enter the pearly gate
Hope is usually crushed by time and pain
Pain of being crushed by all life's strain

Hate: a fit of fury toward another
Often falsely exhibited toward a sister or brother
Anger exposes itself in a violent state
a common occurrence in the element of hate

Love: a passion between two different souls
Who remain unscathed through whatever life tolls
Bearing their burdens together as one
Fighting battles, though no one has won
Showing signs of affection for all to see
Continuing to dream of what could be

The elements of life show themselves very clear
But also come subtle, and seem to disappear
As life takes its turns for the worst or the best
Time, hope hate and love tower over the rest
