The Blink of an Eye

The Blink of an Eye

A Poem by Midnight Wolf

It’s amazing to see
Where the path of life goes
How the river winding round our futures
Crashes as it flows

All it takes is a moment’s time
When the well finally runs dry
To see the toils of many a year
Vanish in the blink of an eye

Perhaps belongings aren’t the greatest concern
Perhaps there’s more than that to lose
On your path there may become a fork
And the way is only yours to choose

A lean to the right or a lean to the left
Such a difficult decision to make
If only you had someone with you go guide you
Holding out a hand for you to take

Through one side you see a pleasant glow
Comfort and warmth to pull you in
The other shrouded in eternal night
A darkness familiar to where you’ve been

A step to the light, then back to the fork
As you think, you let out a small sigh
The feeling of warmth fades as you look up
All has vanished in the blink of an eye
