Out of ReachA Poem by Cory FirestineDedicated to Eric E. who passed 6/18/06. This was written 6/18/2013.We were so close, Possibly much more. But you left so quickly, so sudden, That I never said goodbye.
When my eyes closed, You were there, Still alive and well, Still your laughing, funny self.
But when my eyes opened, You were already gone. Cold and quiet, your body was, So distant already, was your soul.
Right there, right there you were, I screamed at you, but no response. I yelled and shook you and touched you, But it was of no use.
I was there the entire time, I didn't leave your side, Until they forced me away. But it didn't matter anyway, You were already gone, and forever...out of reach.
