A Song of Hope (or of hope for simplicity)

A Song of Hope (or of hope for simplicity)

A Poem by CD Campbell

A Song of Hope

(or of hope for simplicity)

Where there is the light, there is the bite

Of a snow tipped mountain; a pinnacle of white

To tame, climb, to know of nature in its heavy breath

As it travels down to the valley.

I have decided today to sing of hope.  I know nothing

Of the priest’s habit or of an acidic salted earth

Or of breasts that are not soft and forgiving.

I desire only simplicity.

In the wracking strikes of lightning there is pain.

What is there to see dancing in the substrate?

You: a brilliant vision!   My fist on a stone!

There is no song to sing but of you!

My spirit is of joy and pain,

Of fluid nutrient from root to leaf.

The only thing to hope for is to know death,

To see death, to ignore a holy death,

To be the simple man staring at the sun,

Becoming blind to the beauty of you.

Look to the simple things in life to offer joy and hope when there is darkness. I like that the light from the snow tipped mountain travels down to the valley's depths. That is both beautiful in its imagery, but also its meaning. Lovely work CD.

Thanks Ranger! Glad you liked it.
No way!!! I opened the poem and the first thing my eyes saw was this,

" I desire only simplicity."

Was it You or someone else who I was telling (I tell this always but I am speaking recently). That I love SIMPLICITY and clarity in poetry? (yes and I seem to be terrible in them). now excuse me after I made this intercept going to read your poem and leave a decent review.

Read.

Seriously, why You are hiding this beautiful reality of your soul? ( I don't know from where I got that You hide it, probably I am wrong). in short, I can feel when it's a soul that's writing, and You write with your soul. You yearn for something that You may have never met or known before, but You feel it, your soul feels it.... This is so special, exceptional....

Very nice imagery, and you have conveyed your state of mind in a simple but powerful (i.e., poetic) way.

If we find true love, fortunately I have, and can raise a family, be loved by those we seek to share our lives with them this life of ours is one to be cherished.

Cool. Thanks.
Toward the end, I'm reading this as the narrator speaking to God. I love that it's expressed conversationally, rather than using some stilted biz. This sounds like how I talk to God, like He's right here with me, catching me in my real words. I also love the message of simplicity, since I have been moving in this direction for years, since moving to the wilderness, becoming more in tune with the land & creatures, instead of the frenzy of stuff so many people find to swirl around about. As always, your way of stating relatable concepts always sparkles with originality (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I feel like these days people are so wrapped up in the struggles of their lives that they fail to stop and appreciate the small and simple things that make life what it is. Thanks for sharing this!

it is so easy to overthink things when one has an analytical mind particularly when we author of or in introspection we well at least I have many a day looked for the complex answer and stepped right over the simple ones... thinking hey that's to easy perhaps it is indicative of western philosophy why walk around the mountain when we can tunnel thru it lol

and to experience love before death...simple wants and wishes...
what more do we really need?
we have complicated life too much...we no longer feel that "fist on a stone"--
