fall far behind

fall far behind

A Poem by Colleen Margot Lee

forever ago. i am sorry i did not realize sooner

but looking back and seeing what was there

i was too naive at the time

to even care

and there you stand with your hand stretch out

but my love is rusted out

from this old machine long run on nothing but smoke

and as i dare to fade away with the wind that drifts

present time. i am sorry i cannot come

i have forgotten everything i have found

pushing feelings to far out places

my world goes round

and i wear a gun so it shows

to remind me how it kills

and the feathers feel soft to a cogent hand

which is no longer mine

who shot the trigger and hit straight the target

i fall and feel the sting

telling me im alive

future days. my ghost that stands

reminding us of what we can

the choices we make, the steps we run

the wounds that open breaking blood to air

we cant live if we dont care

I think this is excellent.
The images that it brought to mind were flickering, glowing, sad.
I read this again and feel as if I'm hearing a lullaby sung too late.
Great write.

Such a dark, beautiful depth... Pain. Distance. Loss. Your words are a world that lies below the surface of a life, fragile like the dust that covers a memory... Haunting...
