So I Write

So I Write

A Poem by Dean Allen Choate (aka D. A. Choate)

So I write.

So many words on paper,
Black ink on a flat white sheet.
Expressing who I am
To reveal my true feelings.
I fill page after page
With words as two-dimensional
As the paper they are scrawled across.
No sound is ever heard

only my breathing and my silence
For I have no voice to read the words aloud.
It was taken from me by the people
Who said they dearly love me.
I make no utterances of outrage,
No pleas for anyone's mercy.
Unable to protest, I write.
Unable to express my pain, I write.
In all my desperation, I write some more.
So I write, and write. . . .
