Everything I Am

Different family members, friends, teachers and others taught me things. They together make up everything I am.

My friends,

my family

they're all teachers

to me.

Their stories so different,

all true and worthy,

I shall share them with you

maybe you can learn a little, too!

My sister taught me

that life can be hard,

that friends can be backstabbing

and bullies are everywhere.

My dad taught me

that working hard leads to success

that if you study day and night,

you can pass every test.

My mom taught me

that love is always there

that whenever I need help or advice,

someone will always be here.

My grandparents taught me

that being older

doesn't mean

you can't have any more fun.

My art teacher taught me

that beauty is everywhere,

whether on canvas

or through the windowpane.

My PE teacher taught me

that if you exercise and keep fit

you'll feel healthier and better

and you'll be happier, too.

My writing teacher taught me

that writing is like art,

beautiful and exquisite,

dainty and fragile.

My math teacher taught me

that math can be fun

if you keep on studying

and learning from mistakes.

My reading teacher taught me

that books are like food

and if you feed the mind with literature

it becomes a happier mind.

Strangers taught me

that you can't trust everyone

even if they have

a cheery smile.

My choir taught me

that if you work together

you can achieve great levels

even if there are different parts to it.

Birds taught me

that you can still wish

that you could fly

and it's not weird.

My girl scout friends taught me

that if you give a helping hand

you feel like a better person,

and that everyone is special.

My friends taught me

to share a smile

that friendship is the best

especially when it's with you.

Poetry taught me

that writing is music

and to appreciate it

when you can.
