The Girl with her Lamb

The Girl with her Lamb

A Story by wishystar

There was once a girl who was extremely poor, and had only a lamb for a friend. The lamb was sickly and skinny, yet the girl loved it very much. One day, a wealthy girl came over and said to the poor girl "Why do you fare with a sheep for a friend? I have never heard of such a foolish thing. Sell it for some gold coins so you can have food to eat and dresses to wear." But the girl with the lamb, she said no. "Thank you for thinking about that, but I will not sell my dear lamb." So the rich girl twirled around, her puffy pink skirts flying, and left. The girl with the lamb sat down on the streets again, reaching her hands out for money.
A young lad named Sammy had come across her and had seen the little girl reject the wealthy girl's suggestion. He looked closer at the little girl, her big hazel eyes and brown curly hair. Now, this Sammy was wondering why such a beautiful little girl should be wandering about the streets. So he came up to the little girl and asked "Why fare you on the streets, so poor and sad? Come with me to my warm home so you will not freeze when winter comes." The little girl again shook her head, "No, sir. Thank you for thinking of me, but I will stay here on the streets."
That Christmas day, at midnight, everyone heard tinkly silver bells ringing as they slept. Remember our young lad, Sammy? Well he went out to the street where he saw the little girl with the lamb and saw her singing, eyes closed. She was smiling and very happy, and the lamb? The lamb was not in sight, not until it came trotting over, a plate of food in it's mouth. Now this made Sammy curious. So when the lamb went to get more food, he followed the lamb. It went to a small stall in a "haunted" fairground that read "Free Food for those who are kind and deserving." Sammy finally realized- this kind, sweet girl lived perhaps a better life than most. She had a lovely best friend and free food for the eternity.

You have a great imagination, and love your story. It was very cute, and also kind of sad. Although you could tell that the little girl didn't want any pity.
