As soon as the teacher looked at me, I knew it wasn’t good news. Mr. Shue looked smug as he slapped a big fat F on my desk. “Well Jake, failed Geography again...” Mr. Shue said “Looks like summer school for you.”
I dawdled home, dreading the look on moms face when I told her. Dad left a few weeks back, so its been really tough on mom. This summer I was supposed to look after my younger brother Josh, while mom worked double shifts at Burger Palace. I didn’t know what I was going to tell her but before I could think of something I arrived at the front door. It creaked as I opened it, revealing a small but seemingly quiet cottage. “Mum?” I called “Josh?” No reply. I moved down the hall and peered into the rooms. “They must be out back” I thought out loud. As I reached the back door... “BANG!” “What was that!?” I asked the dishwasher, of course being a dishwasher it didn’t reply. “Bang!” I jumped, and then ran full speed into the lounge, to find a mysterious box placed on the coffee table.
