The last shower

The last shower

A Poem by Jeannine Winklaar

Flowers on the edge of a cliff

overlooking the valley, heavy,

bearing raindrops of the last shower

From a distance you see only beauty

and purposely neglect the weight of

burden on their tiny shoulders

At a distance you wish to stay, putting up a

barrier, not to face reality, close your eyes

for fear of losing all the joy that is left

Alas that what remains is fear, for

the shared joy dissolved with rain
