Midnight

Midnight

A Poem by Jeannine Winklaar

midnight seems to wander

through the streets at night

creeping shadows of a lost

and lonely soul seeks delight

red lights reach to catch the

contours of her weary flesh

yet his eyes are never on her

as they eager seek the past

sighs cast themselves like

whispers upon grey empty walls

sliding down as water does

slowly from the edges of a fall

then she draws the blankets

and urges him to leave

time has passed, his stay

surpassing the need

there he goes wandering

the streets at night again

wondering what will come his

way in the hours that remain

Your poem is thick with loneliness and unfulfilled longing, yet it draws me right into those midnight streets.
Nicely composed, dear poet.
