A Borrowed View

A Borrowed View

A Poem by Jeannine Winklaar

A Borrowed View

Cutting hedges as to see the landscape,

bringing a far view closer to indulge

in meadows Drawing the eye or

guiding attention away... Hidden

nature comes close, brings

freedom, keeps the wind afloat,

above our heads, up high, as

the sight of you draws near...

As soon as a window in the hedge is

made -  an element of surprise - a statue arises

Water springs from the pond, flows to the

river as tears run down a cheek

I glance across to see you and close my

eyes to capture -  forever in mind and spirit -

that borrowed view from summers past,

before nature reclaimed my garden
