Instructions to Ice Sprites on How to Raise Snowflakes

Instructions to Ice Sprites on How to Raise Snowflakes

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

It only takes a minuscule seed
To begin this process.
Obey dipolar laws if you can,
And extend the arms hexagonally,
Though sometimes a meteorological glitch
May evolve an exotic prism or two.
When adopting an infant, make sure your crystal
Is nurtured and loved as much as the others.
Feed it dew well-chilled, and rotate it often.
Don't be alarmed if you nursle a monster!
A cup or sheath or needle or plate
Has a role to play in its storm of cousins;
Be they perfect stars, dendritic or plain,
Or grainy graupel, or semi-sleet,
All frostbits are equal regardless of "beauty"
As hallowed by poets--but what do they know?
They are too macro to savvy the micro;
They're better at pondering snowdrifts and rimes
And icicle eavefalls on New Year's Eves
Than the graces of minims,
So pooh on them all! Go, trust your instincts
And coddle those slivers like babes of your own.

Just to be clear, I do mean "frostites," an invention, not frostbites, though that option has its allurements!
On third thought, I've decided to alter the term to "frostbits." Thanks for the inspirational nudge, Softyfall!

All frostbites are equal regardless of beauty, what a gorgeous way to say protect the seedlings from the cold.
Every drop of rain has a nucleus of dust, perhaps it is fairy dust, magical ice sprite dust.
This is like a fairy tale for genius children. Genius tale for fairy children?
Dipolar was a new word for me, thank you, always love a brand new word.

I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
