A Poem by Wilyem Clark

If you were my lover,
What would we do?
Would we be kind and loyal to each other?
Would we give up free agency?
Could we train ourselves to be less selfish?
If you were my lover,
Would I doze off mid-kiss?
Would I capture your heart?
Or would it slip from my slimy grip
And break, as mine has done so often?
Are you truly delighted to see me, and
Do you enjoy our afternoon snoggles,
Or am I repulsive, as I suspect,
And you humor me just for sport?
If you were in high school in '99,
And I was an old fart at twenty-two,
Would that open up rifts between me and you?
Tell me, and soon--I'm dying to know!

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
