Disengagement

Disengagement

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

It irks me,
It angers me
To hear these tales of
Wanton endangerment,
These cripplings and murders of innocents
By the chest-thumping carnage class,
Who bleat the refrain, "I have a right to--"
What? To bully, to threaten, to terrorize,
To maim, to kill? As if human beings
Were woodland prey, deer in the thickets,
Grouse on the heath.
Out they go hunting,
These militant-minded,
For shotgun scenes,
Like hooded hoodlums,
Like backlot brigands,
And then they're surprised
That they're vilified?
The assailed are owed justice;
These goons must disarm.

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
