An Allowance for Death

An Allowance for Death

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

Should provisions be made
To permit those who wish it
(Of their volition)
To flirt with Death?
Not euthanasia--that option
In some forward-thinking provinces
Is codified already;
This pertains to those who--
Whether for muddled religious motives
Or simple-minded obstinacy--
Refuse to follow common sense.
I'm all for it, as long as they legally:
* Renounce all insurance policy claims;
* Refrain from seeking medical treatment;
* Waive rights to patient benefits;
* Wear harlequin colors to warn the milieu.
A new class of lepers? I imagine so,
But plague times call for plangent measures,
And screwball unreason must be contained.

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
