Dreams

Dreams

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

Such luscious dreams, and so improbable,
Where minor details are magnified
And take on overabundant significance;
Where niggling nettles, all out of proportion,
Spur one's thoughts to ridiculous heights
And harebrained conclusions.
And yet, while the dreamer's engrossed chasing flibbets,
His bodily frailties freefall away,
And he antelope-lopes across hillslides and plains
Unhampered by pain or gravity's cruel,
Wingclipping rule. A Hercu-Pegasus is he!
The leagues are mere bootsteps,
Youthful vigor's restored,
His arms can tote sarsens,
And libidinous gifts once bestowed on demand--
But of late ever scarcer--
Rush back to the fore.
In this realm of oblique and absurd revivals,
Dead relations rise to resume old debates,
Ancient embarrassments salvage their stature,
Fears and fancies kiss and commingle,
While stardust is gathered
By celestial bees
That zizz and zuzz under
Inverted meadows.

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
