Self-sufficiency Is Key

Self-sufficiency Is Key

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

In a pinch, you cannot rely on friends,
Pseudo-friends, ex-friends, non-friends, the lot!
For within each human lurks a foe,
A contemptuous b*****d that craves release,
And the comeliest capstone of niceness and courtesy
Will not suppress it forever.
Even less savory: adults knocked back
Into infancy, mewling and clenching their fists,
Confined to their cribs--helpless, self-pitying--
Who cocoon like grubs, yet never will earn
Their motley moth wings.
No, you cannot depend on anyone . . .
Live independently, or despair.

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
