Self-sufficiency Is KeyA Poem by Wilyem ClarkIn a pinch, you cannot rely on friends, Pseudo-friends, ex-friends, non-friends, the lot! For within each human lurks a foe, A contemptuous b*****d that craves release, And the comeliest capstone of niceness and courtesy Will not suppress it forever. Even less savory: adults knocked back Into infancy, mewling and clenching their fists, Confined to their cribs--helpless, self-pitying-- Who cocoon like grubs, yet never will earn Their motley moth wings. No, you cannot depend on anyone . . . Live independently, or despair.
