Chicory

Chicory

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

We do our best to bloom
Under extenuating circumstances:
Rooted in clay or stony soils,
Exposed to unforgiving heat,
Deprived of water for weeks on end.
In inhospitable margins of earth
We struggle, and prosper for our trials,
For few other weeds can challenge us;
Thus, you see us everywhere!
Please, may we prettify your yards?

This put a smile on my face! Despite the title, it spoke to me in human terms... we are just another fruit of nature I suppose. I also love the use of 'prettify'.

I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
