Complaints

Complaints

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

1. Roll out the red carpet,
Even though it's ratty and stained and full of holes,
To welcome me into your heart;
Then retract the offer,
Over and over again.
Is this civilized behavior?
Nothing but brats and petty thieves these days.
2. It's like buying a bag of fireworks:
You know some will be duds,
But for every last one to fizzle
After the fuse is lit?
Where is the magic, the splendor, the sparkle,
The fountains of incandescence,
The bangs and whistles,
The cheers of the crowd and tears of joy?
Cancel all celebrations.
3. Throw us an anchor, we're drowning.
The early worm poisons the bird.
Mighty Casey's batting zero.
A penny saved is ninety-nine wasted.
Discretion died on aggrandizement's doorstep.
Never a wise man but a despised man.
Fighting one's true nature is an onerous task.
Simple minds, simple remedies.
Planet X will crush us all.

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
