Lines Composed in a Bar

Lines Composed in a Bar

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

I'm no one important--
Just a simple soul,
Sensitive, unobtrusive,
Indivisibly invisible,
Sensibly ridiculous,
Obligingly indirect:
A man who chooses to deflect.
And if I don't indulge,
It's because most gay indulgences
Are wastes of time,
Not to mention detrimental
To one's posture and integrity.
What need have we for backbones?
Who cares about integrity?
Well, look and see what happens
When scruples are abandoned,
When principles are shredded
And used to fuel infernos.
Once we've lost our bearings,
It’s hard to find the footpath;
One slip and we are falling
Down a bottomless precipice.

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
