Oblivious

Oblivious

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

I take full responsibility
For not noticing that the trees on the east side
Of Highland are not willow oaks, but Chinese elms.
For years I assumed there was symmetry
In the shadow of Clarendon's midrise buildings,
Left and right, oaks facing oaks;
But the revelation of closer inspection
Exposed the deception, and I was shocked.
I have to admit the ugly truth:
That I dream-walk more often than stroll wide-eyed
Down the dappled, familiar streets of my town.
What else have I missed?

About
I've been writing poems since my teens (now in my 60s) and prose since the 1990s. It's been hard finding decent forums online--the free websites too often suffer sudden deaths. My "published" works ar.. more..
