Godzilla in the Swamp

Godzilla in the Swamp

A Poem by Wilyem Clark

And so the giant lizard stomps among us,
An uninvited presence like the horde of snakes
This country sends to pester us.
More come each year to foster further muddles;
They're interferers, who--with sharpened fangs--
Bite left and right without regard or forethought.
Their only aim is desecration of their stations;
Pretending to advance the people's will,
They slime about, devouring all sweetness,
And leave behind a trail of excrement and grief.
Their leader has no taste for gentle coaxing--
He uses battering rams to butter toast,
And whips his fellow demons when they wander
Or let a mote of warmth escape their throats.
Rejuvenation is a product of affection;
Destruction by itself is selfish and in vain.
This falsehood-hissing modern breed of vipers
May likely spoil our paradise for good.

I loved this. Very current and on the mark (in my opinion). My favorite line is 'he uses battering rams to butter toast.' If that isn't the PERFECT way to describe brash, grandstanding idiocy then I don't know what is. Here's hoping we cut all the vipers at the head before it's really too late. Well done!
