'.. in the end.. it seems i can't love.. myself...'
Won't ever agree with how you see yourself. because as a long-time 'WC friend, you're loyal and kind and that matters, believe me. AND so many others here will say the same. Please, please stop doubting yourself.
i know you can smile and find joy in life, seen it, shared it. Perhaps being away from family/old friends, familiar places shift you into dark thought? Bright lights and gaudiness isn't the place to be when simplicity and reality is what your spirit needs.
Real love is NOT superficial, it's the complete emotional feast, believe me. if you can find the taste for such a feast by finding what's calm and beautiful, exciting and just a little over-indulgent at times, you'll find Self smiling more.. and thus.. someone will smile back at you and.. guess what .... Your words will fly the sky in bright lights!
Your poem is finely written, my long.time friend; your feelings erupt here and there, your use of phrases tremble a little - but that's what writing from the heart means. This thoughtful post blazes with both sincerity and truth. That's what matters.
Did i read like a preacher or fool, or both in the above? If so I apologise, it's just that i 'd like to see a smile across your face in 2016!

You are a loving and caring person, and a brilliant writer, not to mention a believer in friendship and goodness of love. You are right for we have to love ourselves first then give love in return to receive it in due time and season. Glad to see you back, good ole friend and brother...:).................
You must love yourself before you can truly love another....and it is then you will realize love is not superficial at all. Good flow to your words. Lydi**
This also makes me think of the acronym I made out of the word "love". L.O.V.E. = Lies of vicious evil. Of course, that was me at my quite possibly my most pessimistic.
Oh, my friend, so glad to find you back here with us! What a profoundly moving flow of thoughts. You share such intimate places of your heart, and in so doing you reflect something we all must find: a love of self before we can truly love others. What a powerful thought for you to experience, and for all of us to know. Thank you, Pax.

Pax you are such an amazing writer and every time I get a chance to read your work, it always amazed me. Well love starts with oneself and I wish life is treating you kind my friend!
There is superficial love and then there is deep and abiding love....I sense the melancholic view and emotions you portrayed here, Pax. It is such an universal longing of need and want, with such frightening consequences at times. 'Better loved than not lived,' is a particular saying, I believe. I myself hold fast to God, our Creator who is LOVE, and 'we love because He loved us first.' As I read about and meditate on that love I find myself more and more willing to venture into loving people generally and finding love which clings to my heart. The realisation that we often look for love in all the wrong places opens our eyes to search carefully for the one who we are willing to commit to.
Yes, I believe that in order to love others, you must first learn how to love yourself...because you cannot give what you do not have. You can't love if you don't know what is and how to love.
As with the comment from Jacob...this lingers in us all from one point or another in life...its a matter of where does one go with this word "LOVE" or as spell it backwards...like M...says in his music...its "EVOL"...gets a different take each time one looks at the spectrum of things...what is love? >>> if the actual person cannot fully understand first and foremost...in order to take that to the next level of finding love in others...to share with the aspects for which the word is easier said than done...
