"Most
corrupt people are already rich. Their hunger is much harder to satisfy."
Authors Note's
This quote sprang to mind when I stumble upon this news, and I knew it in that moment that most rich people are getting richer and poor people gets poorer in our country.
They may be financially rich, but the corrupt are poor in so many other ways... the sad thing is they may not even realize they are missing, or the value those things have... They will receive their karma in other ways. I honestly don't see the point of living in such a way if you lack humanity, morality, friendship, love, respect for others, the gain from helping others, the happiness that comes from all of these things, relationships based on love/trust/respect instead of fear/greed... can you look in a mirror and still love yourself when you know you are a monster? Great quote Pax!
I took a second look at this and find that, as in life, examples of this in fiction abound. It certainly is a trope that appears to be well used by those in power.

I was once told that it is not like that old quote we hear where, "Money is the root of all evil". It is instead, "Lack of money is the root of all evil". I would further like to amend it to this.
Lack of wealth is the root of all evil.
With this, the word 'wealth' becomes key, as it encompasses a number of subjects both material and immaterial. Wealth could be family, friends, power, control, self-esteem, confidence, self-worth, shelter, or even money. It is the desire for something you do not have and the inability to show restraint once you have it.
Some people will do anything to get what they want, and some will grasp for more once they have it.
There is a reason that the so called Seven Deadly Sins have among them; Greed, Lust, Gluttony, and Envy. Three of them are synonyms for each other and all relate to the desire for something and being unchecked in trying to obtain it.
On the subject of Karma, I thought it traditionally effected you after you died and were reincarnated as something, lesser. At least in my religion, the souls of the corrupt have til Judgement Day to stew in Purgatory before the worst offenders are thrown in an eternally burning lake of fire. And that's only if they don't sincerely repent and purge themselves of the evil they did in life.
So, I shall say, this is a well crafted, short, thought provoking piece, my friend. Well done.
Oh, Kapitan (Lucio Tan) is the inspiration of this write. I tried to watch the link but my connection is too slow until i lost patience. I must agree though that sometimes it is harder to satiate the hunger of the already rich. Does that mean that even in terms of acquisitions/corruption, they have higher standards? (lol) But take note that there are those who came from humble background whose corruption is even greater, far worst than those shrewd businessmen out there (for example, the most controversial lady in the Philippines today).
Corruption has nothing to do with the financial condition of a person, i think it boils down to the lack of integrity and conscience of individuals. Ah, corruption is such a depressing topic, my friend, more depressing than heartbreak.

about what you said: "Corruption has nothing to do with the financial condition of a person" ~ I understand the every individual have different sets of moral standards and conscience - some has it and some don't... that is why I said: "Most corrupt people", so what i meant is it doesn't really apply to all, its just meant 70-80% of corrupt people comes from a rich background.
"Does that mean that even in terms of acquisitions/corruption, they have higher standards? (lol)" ~ I can't help but laugh, perhaps those person are very choosy(LOL)...
"But take note that there are those who came from humble background whose corruption is even greater, far worst than those shrewd businessmen out there (for example, the most controversial lady in the Philippines today)." ~ Like any other other human, she is susceptible to any greed and the seduction of money, i guess it really depends how strong your morals are, the will to survive the great flood of greed.
In our culture, corruption really is indeed a depressing topic, I just want to open it up my thoughts because I am really bothered from all the news I just heard and read. I want to be more aware by writing it and discussing it with my friend... I so appreciate your insight Gab, its amusing and insightful... thank you so much!
