"to read is to learn"

-yet-

~ sometimes to be able to learn it fully, you'll need to experience it firsthand ~

Author's note:

~~ I am a lazy, lazy reader… I only read when i have to… or somehow it sparks my interest… The thing is theories are just thoughts, if we don’t experienced it firsthand or just somehow prove its point ~ it will just vanish in our mind or just a forgotten book in the library shelves. Or either it really depends on what’s the objective of these thoughts.

For example: Einstein’s Relativity ~ until now it still sparks the interest of many scientist, trying to prove what really Einstein’s point, is this really possible or trying to prove either his theories are true or false.  I guess what I’m trying to prove is that we are constantly learning ~ learning in books is never enough! ;)

PS. Thanks to my kabayan Gabrielle for her found quote: "to read is to learn"…

Oh if only I had the time to read every book that was ever written...

We do indeed learn much from the books we read. And yes, often it isn't enough to simply read the words upon the page. However, sometimes it is the only choice. How much of history do we now know, only because someone unearthed an ancient scroll or some inscription on stone that hasn't seen light for a thousand years?

If "to read is to learn", then to write is to teach. Whether that is the intent or not, when we write, we are passing on knowledge. Sometimes that is knowledge of a lesson, a stray fact, or even the fancies of a wandering mind.

My favorite quote, however, would have to be this.

"Knowledge is power."

I don't know who said it first.

Insightful write my friend. Thanks for the lesson.

Haha. Pax, that quote of Gab "to read is to learn" is quite right for me (I thought) because that time I am asking so much questions to her about a sonnet and I said I have to research about it and read more examples including hers because I find it hard to make one... and after some moments, she posted the quote. So I said, "Ouch! This is for me. I have to read more."

I agree with you that reading alone won't make us fully equipped with what we want to have like knowledge and/or skill. "Experience is the best teacher." Because that time I read and read more examples of sonnet, I can't still understand how I can finish it as a good one. Then, I tried to edit my work, but still find it hard to fix the problem especially in the iambic pentameter format. So, I decided to let it be a simple poem in my own style. Until now, I can't make a good sonnet...because I stopped learning through experiencing the making of it. I am lazy, too. I surrendered finishing what I've started.

A nice quote. Thanks for sharing this. :)

This is like saying to know fire you have to touch the fire then you will see how hot it is or painful ...The list go on and on in life. In my opinion which I agree with you Mr. Paz is that theory and application goes hand in hand but here is the catch it is not theory any more when it is applied and experienced ( proven theory of course ). Same thing with knowledge we need tests and labs and all kinds of things to prove what we say.
There is another saying : "Actions speak louder than words ",and in your statement :" Experience speaks louder than knowledge" which is true. There is an Arab saying goes like this : "Ask the apprenticed before asking the graduate ".
A very good one Mr. Pax.
Note : I could be (wrong )but learned should be learn.
