"

"

"to read is to learn"

-yet-

~ sometimes to be able to learn it fully, you'll need to experience it firsthand ~

Author's note:

~~ I am a lazy, lazy reader… I only read when i have to… or somehow it sparks my interest… The thing is theories are just thoughts, if we don’t experienced it firsthand or just somehow prove its point ~ it will just vanish in our mind or just a forgotten book in the library shelves. Or either it really depends on what’s the objective of these thoughts.

For example: Einstein’s Relativity ~ until now it still sparks the interest of many scientist, trying to prove what really Einstein’s point, is this really possible or trying to prove either his theories are true or false.  I guess what I’m trying to prove is that we are constantly learning ~ learning in books is never enough! ;)

PS. Thanks to my kabayan Gabrielle for her found quote: "to read is to learn"…

Without proper experience, reading is incomplete. One can only get a vague idea of what a line means without experiencing it. And about the lazy reader thingy, i am so with you on that:-):-):-D.

Absolutely! I am an avid reader (a Reading and English teacher, actually), but I thoroughly agree with your message here. Reading is one way of learning - but experience gives a much fuller understanding.

I have an attention span issue so I'm not the greatest reader in the world either but amazingly enough I do manage to read a few books. It takes me awhile though.

amazing quote and true and full of philosophy...to the point, the revealing the truth and "learning" is not always easy, many times comes in circles, again and again and again - until we reach to the lesson of the "book"/ or life or any experience...That what i can say for sure, never is enough, what we know, can be revealed or hidden again ,if we are not ready...Made me think :)

well done piece the knowledge within any book is awesome , but i believe knowledge is everywhere , everyday i learn something new and from people and books :) so to me knowledge is everywhere and learning is possible from anything

As the old saying goes : “There is no substitute for experience.”
Experience is the best teacher, I agree, but there is more beyond the corners of our small material world that only in reading we can acquire.

Think of how amazing it is that when you cannot literary afford to travel around the globe to know the different cultures, customs and beliefs of the different countries, you can find joy in doing so by just leafing pages of a book. Think how fascinating it is to have opportunities to travel back time, to experience, to understand the way of life of your ancestors and connect them in your present world to have a better deal of your future. These are only two of the many many many things that you can do/have through reading.

I always admire my professor whom I consider a walking library, often I feel empty whenever I find myself no time to read every book that was written…

I read a lot, but my choice is light fiction. However I have read so much I have a spurious knowledge of many things...but no deep knowledge of anything...

That quote is so familiar....i usually put that in my profile whenever mental block is on the way and i have nothing else to write about =). Meaning, i try to read as many poems i could find in here in order to learn.
I think that there are several ways of learning or acquiring knowledge, 1) we learn it by theory 2) we learn it by experience. the most important aspect of learning for me, however, is that we must be able to apply in life the things that we learned (i am talking here about theory). when we first learn by theory, the goal is to apply in life what we have learned. i can say kabayan that by reading poems in here ive learned a lot. just like what i've told you before i've known that there's nonet, villanelle, limericks kind of poems. i tried to make a limerick and that means that at least i have applied whatever i've read from here. =) As to learning fully by experience, i cannot dispute you on that.

at talagang special mention pa ako jan ha? lol.
