A DARK HARD SEASON

A DARK HARD SEASON

A Poem by Lynne Murphy Miller
"

My friend just told me he is sad but doesn't know why.

"
This is a dark, hard season,
When jingle bells abound.
And Christmas lights astound,
And I go walking in the night.

This is a dark, hard season,
When turkey's on the roast,
And cards are in the post,
And I stand shivering in the light.

This is a dark, hard season,
When ancient tales are told,
And some have hands to hold,
And I am weeping, out of sight.

This is a dark, hard season.

Gee
Hmmmm, the season where the ghosts of those passed come to sit with us, empty chairs at full tables pulling at heartstrings.
Enjoyed the read Lynne

I call it "The Season of Missing..." Seems we all toast "missing friends".

Indeed, we do. As I age, I see, more and more, the second edge of the sword in so many things.
I love how this is arranged, the rhyme scheme and the overall feel of the piece. Though dark, it does reflect how many feel at this time of year. I read your note and I understand that as well, though I am pretty much always a happy person, i do know that feeling. Nicely done Lynne
