I Didn't Know That

I Didn't Know That

A Poem by willmjspencer

“I didn’t know that” were the words that slipped from my mouth;

An admonition of the gaps in my knowledge that surrounded you.

What else could I say? Standing there, dumbfounded by the previous

Happenings, too scandalous to tell right now. I barely know you.

This may be an open book, but I am not one. I have learned that

It is an earned privilege, not a right, to gain access to subconscious

Secrets; a right, it seems, I had not earned from you: I didn’t know that.
