The String Theory

The String Theory

A Poem by William Fields Issac
"

This is just a poem I wrote when I was bored but I have been more musically minded lately.

"
A note,
Then two,
add yet another,
Now you have something new.

A chord,
Several notes in one
Add a few more,
Now a song is done.

Pluck the string softly now,
The wisp of thumb,
The tick of plectrum,
Shut the world out let all go numb.

The fingers pluck and strum,
The strings sing a wordless song,
Yet their message is not confused,
It is remembered when days grow long.

Play harder now.
Your heart begins to race,
Your pick begins to fly,
In the midst of arpeggios it doth trace.

The final strum,
The lonely string,
Its voice fades,
Softer now it it sings.

There have been many a time when I'd lose myself in my instrument as I let it sing to me. I still do. This poem reflects that feeling/experience very well.
