Soul searching

Soul searching

A Poem by William J Rimbaud

He dresses like him because he wants her

Well I'll dress like her, because I want her

Trying to look deeper than gender

Trying to look deeper, you realise it doesn't go deeper

Nothing changes

Well I'll kill myself before I end up like my dad.

Yet five years down the line I'll be bitter.

Is the knife really blunt or an I afraid?

This is very good stuff...as the other reviewer noted so much said in so few lines and very well understood every word binding to the next and in context makes for an interesting poem.

"He dresses like him because he wants her

Well I'll dress like her, because I want her"

These must be my favorite lines of your poem. I'm unsure of the meaning of the second line, but I'm guessing means that he 'wants her' in the sense that he wants to be her?

The confusion and emotion in this poem is wonderful. He doesn't want to be the same kind of man his dad was, he wants to be himself. How can he ever be himself with the world accepting it? So he is on the verge of suicide, and yet is still unsure if that is how he should go.

This poem amazes me. It strikes quite close to home, and the emotions the reader receives are overpowering. Thank you for sharing such a brilliant, meaningful poem.

You express so many layers, a depth of thought and feeling, anguish and anger. Absolutely bril work here.

Michel de Montaigne: "I know well what I am fleeing from but not what I am in search of."
