My Best FriendA Story by AudreyHis lips were the color
of coral, his smile as perfect as can be. The rest of him was… adequate. He was
tall, with blonde hair never cut just right, a sizably large nose, and cobalt blue
eyes hidden behind wire frames. Yes, he was a nerd if stereotyped by
appearance, but I loved him all the same. His
voice was deep, and he sang bass, but always just quiet enough for maybe just
him and I to hear. His laugh was
indescribable… too manly to be a giggle, but not enough to be a chuckle. His
humor skipped around quite a bit also. It went from dark, to dirty, to
sarcastic, to just about anything else that tickled his funny bone. I was one
of those things, I made him laugh that laugh and smile that smile. It
was always warm in his arms, and a hug was almost always expected. Sometimes
when I looked at him, he was in a different place either a brooding one or a
cheerful one, depending on the day. He was my space cadet, and when I was with
him, I felt like I was flying. Whenever I was with him, he’d fish for
compliments just to see me smile. And the thing is… he didn’t have to. I’d have
bent over backwards just to see his beautiful, white smile in return. The
two of us, we were like peanut butter and jelly. We knew everything about each
other and then some. I’d get cold, he’d lend me his sweatshirt which always
smelled strongly of Axe. He’d feel down, I’d cheer him up with a good joke or a
funny story from home. At dances, he would dance with me. (Though, it took him
long enough just to buck up the courage to try.) On the phone, we could talk
for hours. And the whole time he’d be playing Call of Duty, watching
television, and doing his homework. Hands down, he was the best multi-tasker I’d
ever met. At lunch, he would sit by me unconditionally. We were never unhappy
with each other, so our friendship was steadfast. The two of us, we were
inseparable. But
now I’m alone and cold… and nothing ever again will make me feel as warm and
bold… as my best friend. The only person I will ever think as fondly of as
myself. He will always be held in my heart dearly, because no one could take
his place. He will always be my best friend, no matter where life’s many
roads take us. © 2013 AudreyAuthor's Note
