The Night Hope ArrivedA Poem by william wilderSometimes something unforgettable happens. After such a moment, we are never the same again.Another cigarette. Another drink. Another ordinary night at Ramon’s bar among my lovers, friends and strangers. Nothing to distinguish this night from a thousand others passed here and elsewhere, always aware there was something missing, without a clue what it was. Not knowing if I would ever know. Another cigarette. Another drink. Another futile attempt to forget that something was missing. Still hoping it would arrive, reveal itself and release me from My wretched lonely wandering. Then I noticed you. I smiled. You had not noticed me yet. I hoped you would. I hoped we would meet. I hoped we would make love tonight. I hoped… By morning I hoped we would always be lovers. I hoped our love would be what was missing for us until now. I hoped we would never be lonely again. I hoped… © 2022 william wilderAuthor's Note
