Lovers' Lane

Lovers' Lane

A Poem by Doug Ordunio
"

love collides with nuclear war

"

Dormant desires launched suddenly

From sleepy underground silos

Some sought heat

Some knew their targets intimately

The destinations lay silent

Unknowing

Till the desires fell

Making love to the world

After the enervating mushroom orgasm

Some staggered to their feet

As banshee sirens agonized

In those dying moments

Some heard those voices as joyous choirs

Welcoming the reborn children to a better world

After this brief and violent mating
